APETRA is funded by means of a levy payable on the quantities of oil products, subjected to this levy, put in consumption on the Belgian market. The APETRA levy is calculated via a formula based on, amongst others, the international quotations and the interest rate and varies each quarter. The fee has to enable APETRA to buy disposition rights on operational stocks, to cover its own working costs and to pay back the loans needed to buy oil products and to rent storage capacity.

Contributions applicable from 1 April 2012 - 30 June 2012 (source FPS Economy, S.M.E., Self-Employed and Energy):
- Cat I: 11,25 euros/1000 liters
- Cat II: 12,17 euros/1000 liters
- Cat III: 10,61 euros/ton
Contributions applicable from 1 January 2012 - 31 March 2012 (source FPS Economy, S.M.E., Self-Employed and Energy):
- Cat I: 10,84 euros/1000 liters
- Cat II: 11,92 euros/1000 liters
- Cat III: 9,98 euros/ton
Caution: For kerosine with CN code 2710 1921 used by the regular airlines and freight aviation the contribution never exceeds 4 euros/1000 liters. This reduced contribution will only be permitted provided that proof is furnished to and accepted by the Directorate general Energy of the FPS Economy, P.M.E., Self-Emplyed and Energy.
