Welcome at APETRA,

As a member state of the European Union and the International Energy Agency, Belgium is obliged to hold one fourth of its annual consumption of petroleum products as strategic stocks. This in order to prevent our economy and our final consumers from being confronted with a scarcity or total lack of motor fuels, heating oil, heavy oil or aviation fuel at the moment of a disruption in oil supply.

On January 26, 2006, the federal Parliament decided to entrust the management of the major part of the strategic stocks to the limited company under public law with social goal APETRA.

This site answers your questions concerning the strategic petroleum stocks, the reasons behind these stocks and their legal basis. On these pages you will equally find information on APETRA - its goals, tasks, organisation, functioning and results.

More information concerning the different procedures of APETRA (tickets, purchase, storage capacity and product replacement) and the ongoing assignments in the administrative or financial field can be found in the section ‘ongoing tenders’.
